According to Pennsylvania GenWeb site, the "genealogy" of counties
related to Northumberland is as follows. I have not done any further
research into this and how the various records are affected. It appears
some records may report the current county, rather than the historical
county where the event took place. Northumberland researchers should
look into this and the effect, depending on the township location and
time period.

* The consensus seems to be that Mathias
came on ship "Albany", arr. Philadel-
phia 2 Sep 1749. PA German Pioneers -
"Albany" arr. Philadelphia on 2 Sep
1749: Matheas (X) SCHOENK (Who was
Matheas??), Johann Martin SCHUCK,
Valtin SCHUCK, Hans Jacob WAGNER.
* Johann Martin SCHUCK apparently died
soon after his arrival as it is re-
ported that some of the children of
Johann Martin SCHUCK including Mathias
were indentured - Mathias was inden-
tured to Conrad WEISER.
[page 7]
* From an old History of Union, Snyder and
Centre Co PA, Mathias could be brother to
John Sr. who went to Ky. George was also a
brother, for John Sr's son George was only
16 at the time (1785), John Jr. was 23
(1786) and Philip was 26 (1786). (These
sons of John Sr. - Ky).
* Mathias SCHOCK s/o John applied for 200
acres, 4 Jun 1762.
* John SCHOCK applied for 300 acres,
joining George SCHOCK claim 2 Nov
1772. Also applied for 200 acres, 18
Dec 1772.
* George SCHOCK s/o John applied for 200
acres, joining John SCHOCK 21 Dec 1785.
* John SCHOCK Jr applied for 100 acres,
joining John SCHOCK Sr. - Feb 1786. Later
John SCHOCK Jr. applied for an additional
100 acres.
* Philip SCHOCK s/o John applied for 100
acres, adjoining lands of John SCHOCK 2
Feb 1786. John and Mathias served in the
Revolution at the same time, same company
and lived in vicinity of Salem Church
where both worshiped and came there from
Philadelphia.

* Two sisters, one md. a ISEMENGER and the
other md. a SALTZGIVER (another account
say, 2 sisters, one md. a SALTSGIVER and
other md. a SPANGLER). All settled in
Berks County, Pa., which at that time may
have still been Philadelphia Co. Later
moved (Mathias, 1768?) to Salem Church
area, now Snyder Co. Mathias was age 11
(b. 1738), when he came to America and was
bound out (6 yrs) to pay expenses of his
passage. He lived in family of Conrad
WEISER, the interpreter. [Indian interpreter]

died. During the Revolution he served in

founded Rows Lutheran Church in Snyder Co
Melchios STOCK, Micahel WEAVER, John SCHOCK

purpose of erecting a church (Lutheran), 4 Apr
1776 land located in Northumberland Co joining
land of Martin TREASTER, land late the
property of Conrad WEISER, deceased and land
of George RAU (ROW). There are some of the
family group charts made up for John and some
members of his families, therefore no addition
members will be listed. The "Parker Book" by
Wayne V Parker does an excellent job on most
of this family. Like wise the "SHOCK FAMILY
HISTORY 1730-1979" by Irene FERVERDA and
Pauline WHITE (Dec 1979) covers the Adam SHOCK
family in a very concise manner.

if it did not exist on the census schedule or just wasn't transcribed.
Also, none of his transcriptions of census data show the page number of
the source schedule. The AIS indexes will need to be checked for that.

Turbot, Northumberland Co. PA
(Pam Wood Waugh - see her query. Researching for a friend.)
This Schuck family was supposedly in Turbot Twp., Northumberland Co. in 1823.
A certificate that was in his family Bible that says in German:
Johannes SCHUCK and wife Lidia HARTMANN had a son baptised in April of
1823, born at Turbot, PA, by the name of Lazarus.
It is noted in English that this was Ida Schuck's father. Ida was
born in 1854. However, another notation indicates her father was William
Schuck. Perhaps he was William Lazarus SCHUCK. The birth year would
certainly about right to be her father and I can't figure out why else they
would have this great old original baptismal cert in German.
1800 Census records show both a Jacob and a Phillip SHUCK in 1800 in
Northumberland Co.
1810 Northumberland Co: David Turbot
John Turbot
P Turbot

George Hemlock
1820 Northumberland Co John Turbot

1830 Northumberland Co: Michael Turbut
1840 Northumberland Co: 2 John SHOOKs in Turbot and a Jacob SHOOK
1850 --- can't find anything in SHOOK or SHUCK or SCHUCK in Turbot.

Elias Shuck (1827-) born Lewisburg PA, son of John.
Elias Shuck was born December 26,1827 in Lewisburg, PA the son of John.
[Lewisburg PA appears to be in Union Co. -NU]
He married Sarah Ann Moored on September 16, 1849 in Hancock County, Ohio,
where she was born on October 18, 1833. They had nine children, eight born
in Ohio and one most likely in Michigan. Their names are: Amanda Jane,
William P., Benjamin Franklin, John W., Lizzie M., Julia Ann, George R.,
Floretta, and Alexander.
Elias died Sept. 20, 1899, in Salem Township,
Allegan County, Michigan, and Sarah died June 25, 1904, in the same
place. One of my uncles told me that we used spell our last name
Schuck, so it's possible one of those John's in Union might be the guy I
am looking for.
Possible connection with one of the following:
The Larry Shuck book does show some early (1800-1850) tax
and census data for John's in Union Co.:

I believe there is a connection to Joseph
Schuck. I've had contact with Toni Rossi. She sent me some info that she
had. My grandmother's mother was Elizabeth Schuck married to Peter
Longo. Her parents were Joseph Schuck and from my grandmother's bible
Reta or Reta Sheets?. Toni found a Elizabeth Friederika Schiess married
to a Joseph Schuck. Perhaps grandma didn't know the grandmother's name
or that's what they called her.
I haven't delved into that side of the family too much yet. So, still
up for research.
Thanks again for the excerpts from the book and the names of the other
researchers.
